I worked by myself in a bakery outlet close to a National monument that got heavy tourist traffic. We were kind of off the beaten path but the people who wandered in were sometimes prime examples of stupidity and inconsideration. One night I was closing after pulling an extra long shift, 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.. I had literally closed everything, turned off all the lights and had my purse over my shoulder as I walked to the front door to lock it - the last thing I had to do before I could leave. Halfway to the door this horribly tacky obese lady pushes right in and immediately trips over some of the sandwich board signs I put on the inside of the door, saying "Why is this in the way?!" She did not even notice all of the lights were off and I had the keys in my had.
So I said, "Can I help you? I am right about to lock the front door."
She INSISTED on needing to buy something for breakfast the next morning, saying her husband was diabetic. Seeing as how there is only one grocery store nearby and the area is mostly bars and tourist shops, I felt sympathetic (but still annoyed). I suggested she go to the grocery store which was only a block away, but she demanded on buying something from my store and walked up to the counter where I had wrapped and put everything away.
She then decided on buying two muffins, so I had to take the till money from the safe, turn the register back on and try and ring her up. When I told her the total (about $6 for two large handmade muffins), she blew up. "WHAT?! Six dollars for two MUFFINS?! You have got to be kidding me!"
Then she stormed out without buying anything.
