Everyone I know has a story about some wealthy fat cat who won’t pay their bills to people who are struggling just to get by during the recession. I did some work for a guy who owns houses in five different states, including two vacation homes, and he has an annual income of more than $1.5 million. When it came time for him to pay me the rather small invoice – which was less than $200 – he said he would have to first have his accountant talk to the manager of his trust fund (in another state) and then he could cut me a check. I waited six months for that lousy check and had to call his three times to pester him for it. Each time I called he had the audacity to ask me “Are you available to do some more work for me in the meantime?”
